Residents of Spavinaw whose homes were damaged by the recent tornado are eligible for up to $300 per family in emergency aid from Mayes County Salvation Army.
Beginning Wednesday, those affected by the tornado can make application at the CARD/Salvation Army office at 708 SE First, Pryor. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents can apply for funds to help pay for clothing, groceries, medical aid, transportation, vehicle repair, utilities, cleanup assistance and rental.
Also eligible are funds for replacement of appliances, furniture, household goods and home repair or reconstruction.
Applicants will need to show they live in the affected area, and need to show proof of loss. They will need to show a valid quote for repair or replacement of damaged or destroyed items.
Eligibility is not based on income or availability of insurance. U.S. citizenship is not required.
Funds to cover the payments come from money raised in the county at Christmas-time bell ringing and Mayes County United Way.
Salvation Army co-chairmen Jack L. Hardy and Rick Elliott announced the availability of funds.
