Man dies after truck crashes, hit by train

— BRAGGS (AP) — An unusual accident has left a Gore man dead in Muskogee County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports 38-year-old Steven Ray Lafferty died near Braggs sometime between late Sunday and early Monday.

Troopers say Lafferty's pickup truck was traveling north on Oklahoma Highway 10 about 8 p.m. Sunday when his truck ran off the right edge of the road and overturned onto railroad tracks as he tried to steer back onto the highway. Troopers say the impact partially ejected Lafferty out of the passenger-side window.

Hours later, around 3 a.m. Monday, the patrol says a train pulling 78 cars hit the truck.

Troopers say Lafferty wasn't wearing a seat belt, and an unsafe speed may have been a factor in the crash.
