The Oklahoma teacher certification nonprofit, The American Board, is hosting a series of informational meetings in Tahlequah and Westville on how experienced professionals and career-changers can earn an Oklahoma teacher's certification. Event registrants will receive career counseling from a former Glencoe principal, Trevor Maxwell, and will also be advised on a personalized path to certification.
As an online, self-paced program, The American Board makes teacher certification accessible to a wider range of qualified professionals. The post-911 G.I. Bill has recently accepted The American Board as a benefit for veterans and their immediate family, and the Workforce Investment Act may also reimburse the program fees to individuals who meet certain requirements.
Interested parties should visit www.abcte.org/teach/events to register in advance, seats are limited. Sessions begin at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Tahlequah Public Library; and at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Westville Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 12.
