Adair schedule stacked with new foes

ADAIR, OK — After dominating the football regular season schedule in 2012 and 2013, the Adair Warriors will see an almost entirely new set of faces looking across at them on the sidelines in 2014.

Adair will welcome eight new foes to its slate in the fall, and while the opposition may be unfamiliar, the competition will take a step up.

Gone are powerhouses like Nowata and OKC Millwood, but Adair head coach Mark Lippe thinks every week will be a struggle, unlike the last two seasons when the Warriors breezed through weaker opponents every seven days on their way to District 2A-7 titles.

"Overall our schedule is much tougher. We'll have Verdigris, Kansas, Colcord, Salina, Haskell in five straight weeks," Lippe said. "It's a lot tougher stretch than we've had around here in a long time."

Wyandotte and Chouteau, which combined to lose to Adair by a 120-13 count last season, are the only regular season opponents that the Warriors will welcome back. Adair defeated Kansas 56-19 in a first-round playoff game as well.

Adair will open the season with a trio of non-district games (Sperry, at Wyandotte and Verdigris) and will close the season with a trip to Owasso to take on Rejoice Christian School.

In between, the Warriors will take on several District 2A-8 refugees that make up the new District 2A-7. Salina was the 2A-8 runner-up last season, and Kansas and Colcord each earned playoff bids. Hulbert also joins from District 2A-8.

All will now compete in 2A-7, alongside Adair, Chouteau and 2A-6 transplant Haskell.

Adair will be heavily favored to repeat as the district champion, and the school is already an early favorite to make a deep run in the 2A playoffs after a quarterfinal appearance last season.
