CHOUTEAU – There aren’t many times a team can lead a game before the it starts, but that was the case Tuesday night in Chouteau.
Caney Valley’s Kyle Knight was issued a technical foul for hanging on the rim during pre-game warm ups.
Chouteau senior Jason Couch knocked down both free throws, giving Chouteau a 2-0 lead and the ball to start the game.
Couch led players with 25 points and 8 boards, while Arlis Alsip and Jordan Shive had another 16 and 15, respectively, as Chouteau defeated Caney Valley 65-58 in the old C-Block gym in Chouteau.
Chouteau outscored the Trojans 35-27 in the second half, blowing open what was a close game for the first 16 minutes.
Couch scored 10 of Chouteau’s 14 first quarter points, giving the Cats a 14-13 lead after the first quarter.
However, Caney Valley responded in the second, outscoring Chouteau 18-16 and taking a 1-point lead into the locker room.
The second half was a lights-out performance for Chouteau.
Shive and Alsip both shot 100percent from beyond the arc in the second half, both going 3-for-3.
Isaac Carter was also 3-for-3 from the field in the second half, helping to secure the Wildcat win.
The Cats will be back in action Friday night, as they host Nowata.
