The Lady Pirates opened the Pryor Invitational Tournament with a big win over 14th-ranked Berryhill. Locust Grove won 46-44 in a game with 10lead changes.
The final lead change came with 1:02 remaining when sophomore Madison Davis made what would be the game winning layup.
Davis led all scorers with 20 points and junior Bailey Holman was second with 13. Holman made four shots from beyond the arc. Her first three began the second half to give Locust Grove the lead and momentum.
Berryhill controlled the ball in the final minute until junior Lynsey Conner forced a turnover with 4.9 seconds remaining. The game ended after a long 4.9 seconds, which included three timeouts, two fouls, and a pair of free throws to seal the Locust Grove victory.
“It’s a good win,” Head Coach Justin Brown said. “I don’t feel like we played our best, but we still found a way to win, so that’s a sign of things starting to come around a little bit.”
Locust Grove faces undefeated Adair Thursday night in the semifinals. Locust Grove lost to the Lady Warriors two weeks ago in the semifinals of their host tournament. Brown said his team will need to commit fewer turnovers if they expect to beat Adair.
