Salina takes 5-3 win at LG Festival

LOCUST GROVE, OK — Locust Grove and Salina each began the Locust Grove Festival with a loss Saturday afternoon. Salina came up short against Westville 6-3, while the host team struggled in a 11-0 defeat to Inola.

The county rivals would try to bounce back from their losses against each other, while the Lady Wildcats (4-8) could still have thoughts of Thursday night’s loss on the gridiron in the back of their mind.

Salina came away with the 5-3 victory in a game which came down to the final out. The Lady Pirates (5-15) had two runners in scoring position during the final out of the game, but could not pull off the comeback.

Salina won thanks to big second inning, in which they scored all five of their runs. The inning started with a leadoff walk and the Lady Wildcats took advantage of LG mistakes from that point on.

Salina senior Courtney Pritchett was glad the Lady Wildcats' hard work is finally turning into results on the field. “We’ve worked hard all year and we play with heart. We’ve improved so much and it’s really starting to pay off for us,” Pritchett said.

Salina tried to continue to improve Monday evening against Foyil. The Lady Pirates, losers of eight straight, took on Wagoner Monday before heading to Keys today for a 5 p.m. contest.
