Softball: Pryor hands Claremore first defeat

PRYOR, OK — The Pryor Tigerettes nabbed a pair of crucial early-season district wins Monday and Tuesday.

Pryor (5-4, 3-1 District 5A-3) came home from Grove late Monday with a 4-2 win over the Lady Ridgerunners before forging a 3-2 win in their its opener against previously undefeated Claremore. The Lady Zebras flied out to end the game, stranding a potential tying baserunner.

Pryor now finds itself tied atop the district standings, as the Tigerettes and Lady Zebras share identical 3-1 records with Pryor holding the initial tiebreaker. Pryor and Claremore finish their season series Sept. 12.

Pryor will begin play in the Shawnee Tournament beginning today with a 10 a.m. date vs. McAlester. The Tigerettes will challenge Durant and host Shawnee Friday and Carl Albert Saturday.

Adair moved to .500 with an 8-0 win over Barnsdall Tuesday. The Lady Warriors (6-6) will host Sarcoxie (Mo.) Thursday before a home contest with Locust Grove 4 p.m. Friday.

Locust Grove fell to 5-11 after a pair of losses to 4A No. 19 Wagoner and Jay Monday and a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Oologah Tuesday.

Salina earned its first shutout of the season, muting Foyil 8-0 to move to 3-4. The Lady Cats will host Westville today at 4 p.m.
