EDMOND, OK —
The Pryor girls cross country team finished in 10th place out of qualifying teams at the state 5A meet in Edmond Saturday.
Kelsie Kerns and Alyissa Harry both crossed the finish line with a time of 13:41 in the 3,200 meters to lead the Lady Tigers. Ofy Chavoya (14:26), Kendall Odle (14:27), Amanda Green (14:39), Karissa Aubrey (14:56) and Chloe Miller (15:01) helped Pryor to 253 team points, eight better than Carl Albert.
Grove's Michaela Werner ran away with the individual competition with a time of 11:48, 40 seconds before state runner-up Sydney Lawrence of Stilwell crossed the finish line. Tahlequah's Amy Hembree took bronze.
Brett Stevens, an individual qualifier in the boys 5,000-meter race, took 21st place out of 107 runners with a time of 17:22. Bryce Balenseifen of Edmond Deer Creek took gold with a time of 15:47, 23 seconds better than silver medalist Walker Clampitt of Duncan.
Deer Creek and Tahlequah finished first and second, resepctively, in both the boys' and girls' races.
