INOLA, OK —
Pryor gave Class 3A No. 3 Verdigris all it could handle, but the Cardinals were poised down the stretch and came away with a 75-68 win over the Tigers in the Jerry Oquin Tournament first round Wednesday.
The Tigers (0-2) led 37-35 at the break and 53-51 to start the fourth quarter, but went cold and were forced to play the fouling game. Verdigris made all 11 of its fourth-quarter foul shots to steal the win.
Robert Ross poured in 21 points to lead Pryor. Tyler Arnold netted 13 and Anthony Martinez pitched in nine, all in the first half.
Verdigris' Cade Upshaw led all scorers with 24 points. Laef Payne added 17 and Caleb Jones scored 14.
The loss also means Pryor's Russ Gilmore is still chasing his first win as the Tigers' head coach and his 700th overall.
Pryor falls into the consolation bracket, where it will face the loser of Wednesday's Oologah-Siloam Springs (Ark.) matchup.
