Tigers head south for Aggie Classic

PRYOR, OK — The Pryor Tigers are one of nine Oklahoma teams that headed to Pensacola, Fla., for the Aggie Classic spring break baseball tournament.

The tournament, hosted by Tate (Fla.) High School and played at six locations in the Pensacola area, features 22 teams from across the southeast.

Pryor opened pool play yesterday against Arlington Country Day School (Jacksonville, Fla.) at Escambia (Pensacola, Fla.) High School and plays its only scheduled night game at 7 p.m. tonight at West Florida High School. Pryor will take on the site's home team, the West Florida (Pensacola, Fla.) Jaguars.

The Tigers will wrap up pool play 4 p.m. Wednesday against the Greenwood (Ark.) Bulldogs at Tate  High before bracket play Thursday. Each of the 22 teams will be seeded by record will play the team seeded closest to them.

Pryor will compete in the Grey Pool. Fellow Oklahoma teams in the pool include Claremore, Norman North and Westmoore. Sooner State teams joining host Tate in the Cardinal Pool are Booker T. Washington (Tulsa), Grove, Edmond North, Tahlequah and Jay.

Pryor stood at 6-3 before embarking on the trip after a 14-2 win at Vinita Friday. Tiger batters got 16 hits and built a 6-1 lead before an eight-run sixth inning put the game out of reach.

Tiger pitcher Anthony Martinez gave up four hits and allowed two runs, moving to 2-0 on the year.
