SALINA, OK —
The Salina Wildcat and Locust Grove Pirate football teams will keep tradition alive, meeting at Leonard Yarborough Stadium in Locust Grove Sept. 5 for the annual "Battle of 82."
The Pirates stole last year's contest between the highway rivals, a 22-17 decision at Salina, ending a four-game Wildcat win streak. The Thursday night kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Salina will host its first home game of 2013 against Inola Sept. 13 before hitting the road Sept. 20 to take on Chelsea. Kickoffs against the Longhorns and Dragons are set for 7:30 p.m.
The Wildcats will open District 2A-8 play Sept. 27 against Ketchum. Salina dispatched the Warriors, 26-20, in 2012, and the 2013 contest will mark the Wildcats' homecoming.
Colcord will visit Salina Oct. 4 for a district contest before the Wildcats travel to Wyandotte Oct. 11. Salina will host district games against Hulbert (Thursday, Oct. 17) and Quapaw (Nov. 1) in addition to road dates with defending district champion Commerce (Oct. 25) and district runner-up Kansas (Nov. 8) to close the regular season.
Quapaw, victims of a 35-12 thrashing at the hands of the Wildcats in 2012, will oppose Salina on Senior Night.
All district games will begin at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to a pair of scrimmages late this month — at Stilwell Aug. 23 and at Vinita Aug. 29.
