LG’s Brown takes fourth at state

ARDMORE, OK — Locust Grove senior jumper Keeley Brown came mere inches from claiming a 4A state championship in the long jump at the 4A-3A state track meet in Ardmore last weekend.

Brown, who took fourth, leaped 16 feet, 11 inches, just four inches off of the gold-medal pace and half an inch from a podium finish. Brown, who also finished 10th in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches), was the only Pirate competing at state.

Adair sent four relay squads to the 3A competition, of which three recorded times. The Warriors’ 4x800 girls team, consisting of Kylie Looney, Bailey Stephens, Abby Stephens and Molly Kerr, took home ninth place with a time of 11.02.50.

The boys 4x800-meter runners — Jonathan Sokolowski, Ty Cannady, James Eastin and Greg Oxford — notched a time of 9:06.02, good for seventh place.

Zak Woolman, Cannady, Eastin and Sokolowski took 14th in the 4x400-meter relay.

Salina senior sprinter Cherish Barry finished ninth in preliminary competition in the 3A girls 100 meters with a time of 13.30, just missing a spot in the finals by .05 seconds.

Chouteau’s Jason Couch was the only other Mayes County trackster in action this weekend, placing 11th in the 3200-meter race at the 2A state track meet at Carl Albert High School.
