PRYOR, OK —
Game of the Week: Pryor (1-0) vs. Wagoner (1-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Pryor will finally get to play at newly-renovated — or currently being renovated — Tiger Stadium Friday night, but just because it's a home game doesn't mean it will be a cakewalk. Class 4A Wagoner (No. 2 AP) took home a gold ball in 2011 and posted an 11-2 record in 2012. The Bulldogs took down 5A No. 13 Coweta 21-2 in a season opener very similar to Pryor's 24-0 shutout of Catoosa in Week 1.
The 5A Tigers (No. 13 AP) are a much-improved and more spread-out team from last season, having yet to allow a touchdown. Pryor's Week 1 win was impressive, though it was mainly impressive because the Indians outgained the Tigers in total yardage but Pryor still found a way to win by three scores.
Head coach Jason Freeman preaches assignment defense, and the Tigers will need to play a perfect game on defense to have a shot at an upset. Coweta allowed just 209 yards of offense to the Bulldogs, including just 2-of-5 passing for 15 yards, but still lost by double figures after turning the ball over four times (Catoosa coughed it up a half-dozen times against Pryor).
Be surprised if the ball is in the air more than 10 times combined. If Pryor can stop the run and pick up some big plays on offense, they'll have a chance.
Bold Prediction: Wagoner 21, Pryor 16
Locust Grove (1-0) vs. Kansas (1-0), Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Fresh off of its second-straight win in the Battle of 82 series with Salina, Locust Grove will stay at home to host Kansas, 44-24 victors over Sallisaw Central in Week 1. LG edged the Comets last year at Kansas, but the Pirates are a much-improved squad this year and should put up more points than 2012's contest.
Bold Prediction: Locust Grove 31, Kansas 12
