Warriors race to homecoming victory

ADAIR, OK — Three plays, three touchdowns.

BJ Bradbury threw three touchdown passes on Adair's first three offensive plays, six different Warriors accounted for scores and Adair blew out overmatched Caney Valley 59-6 on homecoming night Friday at Gene Winfield Stadium.

Bradbury's scoring tosses went for 17 yards to Will Hefner and 81 and 53 yards to Hunter Rosebrough to push the Adair lead to 20-0 before the first quarter was over.

Bradbury tacked on a 31-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to go with a pair of Cody Eby touchdown bursts of 23 and 18 yards. By halftime, the Warriors (3-1, 1-0 District 2A-7) were up 40-0.

“It was the best week of preparation we've had this season,” AHS head coach Mark Lippe said. “Any time you come up short, like we did last week [against Millwood], you refocus.”

While Lippe was pleased with the win, he said the team still played sloppy, especially after opening up such a huge lead so early in the game. Bradbury had some receivers drop passes and went just 3-of-10 after his early successes. He also threw an interception.

"We hit 'em quick, then we relaxed. We got some silly penalties," Lippe said.

The only score the Warriors allowed was a 71-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Bradbury finished with 181 yards passing and 51 rushing yards. Eby ran for 80 yards and two scores on four carries and caught four balls for 30 yards.

Rosebrough and Hefner each caught two passes but made them count. All four catches went for scores. Rosebrough racked up a team-high 134 receiving yards and Hefner added 74. Alec Brand caught a pair of passes for 44 yards.

Backup quarterback Bo Rogers played admirably, throwing for 92 yards on 5-of-5 passing and two second-half touchdowns to Hefner and Brand.

Ben Woolman iced the Adair cake with a 47-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors the final margin.

Adair will hit the road next week for a contest with Class 2A No. 9 and unbeaten Nowata.

“They have nine starters back on defense,” Lippe said. “They play very physical.”

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
