Football previews: Week 3

PRYOR, OK — Game of the Week: No. 5 Adair (2-0) vs. No. 2 Millwood (2-0), Friday, 7 p.m.

Two of the best teams in Class 2A will face off this week, and it's happening right here in Mayes County.

Millwod appears to have an early advantage. The Falcons trounced Oklahoma City rival Douglass 31-12 Saturday afternoon and Star-Spencer 54-0 in its season opener. The Douglass win resonates the strongest, as the Trojans were ranked third in Class 4A. Millwood has the upper hand in experience, too. Senior quarterback Cameron Batson, a verbal commit to Texas Tech, has started for four years for the Falcons and accounted for all five scores in their win over Douglass (three passing, two rushing).

Adair is riding a 23-game regular season winning streak dating back to a 29-28 loss to Salina in 2010. Adair head coach Mark Lippe has adopted a "take on all comers" approach in building the Warrior program, and Millwood is the strongest non-district opponent to brave the confines of Gene Winfield Stadium in recent memory. Adair will have its hands full, and young guns like quarterback BJ Bradbury and running back Cody Eby will have to step up and make plays like they have so frequently in the first two games this season.

Bold Prediction: Millwood 30, Adair 21

Pryor (1-1) at Miami (0-2), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

The Wardogs have yet to win a game on their slate, which has included road dates at Grove and Claremore. Miami's first home contest will feature Pryor, which is looking to bounce back from a humbling 35-13 loss to Wagoner. The 4A Wardogs' unimpressive defense has given up 42 points in consecutive games. The Tigers will be able to right the ship and head into district play against Coweta Sept. 27 with a 2-1 record.

Bold Prediction: Pryor 31, Miami 15

Locust Grove (2-0) at Stilwell (1-1), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

The No. 13 Pirates have a new attitude this season, and they are playing with the confidence of a much older team. Stilwell eked out an eight-point win over lowly Verdigris to open the year before getting smashed by six touchdowns against Lincoln (Ark.) last week. Pirate quarterback Mason Fine should do some stat-padding, and Locust Grove will be favored to start 3-0 for the second year in a row.

Bold Prediction: Locust Grove 48, Stilwell 13
