PRYOR, OK — Tulsa Memorial’s Trevor Boone hit a home run to deep centerfield in the top of the first inning and the Chargers never lost the lead, hitting the Pryor Tigers with a 5-1 setback Tuesday at American Legion Memorial Field.

Pryor starter Nate Wolfe went for 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs. Wolfe struck out two and walked three.

Charger starter Cody Ladner pitched five innings, fanning ten Tigers along the way.

The 6-foot-5 Ladner gave up five hits before being relieved by Dakota Wade, who threw two hitless innings to end the game.

Charger leftfielder Lane Hayes had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles off of Wolfe and Tiger reliever Kelvin Grubbs, who pitched 1 1/3 innings.

Hayes brought home Bob Larson with a fourth-inning single to push the Memorial lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the inning, a Justin Thomas single scored pinch-runner Drake Nunley for Pryor’s only run of the day to make the score 2-1.

After Wolfe picked off lead-off batter Michael Smith at second and Tiger catcher Thomas caught Charger runner Kyle Considine in a pickle for the first two outs in the top of the fifth, Wolfe got out of the inning when Larson flied out to right.

In addition to his work on the mound, Wolfe had the best day at the plate for any Tiger, going 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits.

Tiger shortstop Anthony Martinez got Pryor’s only extra-base hit in the bottom of the fifth off of Ladner, a beautiful line drive over first baseman Wade’s outstretched arm. Martinez wheeled into second but was stranded there to end the inning with Memorial still ahead, 2-1.

Memorial padded its lead with two runs in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh.

The loss moves Pryor, ranked 11th in Class 5A, to 4-3 on the season. No. 10 Memorial improves to 6-0.

The Tigers and Chargers will face off at 4:30 p.m. today at Tulsa Memorial High School in the second game of a district series.
