Pryor places at state golf tournament

ARDMORE, OK — Taylor Brooner and Mia Gordon paced the Pryor Lady Tigers to an 11th-place finish at the 5A girls’ golf state tournament at Dornick Hills in Ardmore May 1 and 2.

Brooner rebounded from a round of 108 on Wednesday to shoot a team-low single round onf 98 on Thursday, finishing with a team-best total of 206. Gordon carded a 102 and a 105, placing just behind Brooner with a 207 total.

Pryor (861) edged 12th-place Piedmont (868) but couldn’t best Grove (853) for the 10th spot.

Deer Creek ran away with the team competition, with a two-day stroke total of 676, outpacing Duncan (686) and Durant (707) for the state title.

Durant’s freshman phenom Sydney Youngblood dominated the par-72 course, claiming the individual state title by seven strokes and turning in the only sub-par round of the tournament (71) on the competition’s first day on her way to a two-day total of 147.

Pryor’s Makenzi Coleman, Ashlin Taylor and Hanna Scott rounded out the Lady Tiger state squad.
