Local teams to square off

PRYOR, OK — It's going to be an all-Mayes County baseball Tuesday night.

Salina and Locust Grove will kick off the evening when the Pirates travel north to take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.

Salina stands at 8-2 after a road trip to Texas over spring break. The Wildcats have a bad taste in their mouths after being squashed by Laredo Alexander (Texas), 13-2, to cap off a 2-1 week.

Locust Grove, meanwhile, attempted to extend its season-best two-game winning streak Monday at Vinita. LG started the season at 1-5 but bounced back to notch a 3-3 record since a 14-0 road loss to Jay March 9.

Salina will have home field advantage and the No. 2 ranking in Class 3A. Locust is 0-5 against ranked foes in the early part of their schedule.

The Chouteau Wildcats are set to head up Highway 69 to take on Adair at 7 p.m. in a battle of teams looking to right the ship in the 2013 season.

Chouteau is just 1-6 on the season, their lone win coming over Class B Braggs in pool play of the Okay Tournament March 15.

Adair, meanwhile,  started its season late and picked up its first wins over spring break in the Ketchum Hardball Classic.

Ketchum toppled the Warriors 9-5 and Chelsea edged Adair 7-6 in pool play, but the Warriors claimed wins over Quapaw (7-0) and Fairland (8-6) to push their season record to 2-5.

Chouteau and Locust Grove will tangle in a Friday matchup, hosted by Locust. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
