The Adair Lady Warriors advanced to the championship game of the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational Tournament after their closest win of the season over Locust Grove Thursday, 56-48.
Adair jumped out to a 13-2 lead over the Lady Pirates on their homecourt by way of sharp shooting from junior Molly Kerr and penetration points from sophomore Kylie Looney.
Locust Grove got into a rhythm in the second period after a slow start.
Lady Pirates’ sophomore Madison Davis found the bottom of the net from long-range before a steal by junior Sydnie Pierce resulted in two points via junior Lynsey Conner before halftime.
Adair led 23-12 heading into the locker room.
A three from Pierce to start the second half started a back-and-forth between the aggressive teams in the third.
A steal, score and free throw from Locust Grove junior Mrittanie Church on an inbound play in the closing minutes of round three cut Adair’s lead to ten.
The home crowd erupted when on the following LG possession, junior Bailey Holman drained a three.
Ahead by only two midway through the quarter,the Lady Warriors clung to a lead in the fourth.
Locust Grove starter Madison Davis and Adair starter Raven Campos returned to the floor in the fourth after foul trouble forced coaches to bench the reliable players for significant time.
Looney hit two free throws with 1:25 to play to help Adair edge out Locust Grove.
Adair faces Ketchum Saturday at 7 p.m.
Locust Grove takes on Grove Saturday at 4 p.m.
