Pryor whips Claremore at home

PRYOR — Daniel Frailey scored a team-high 21 points and Robert Ross knocked down 20 to ignite the Pryor Tigers past the Claremore Zebras, 76-49 in Metro Lakes Conference play at the Burdick Center.

Frailey and Ross were two of three Tigers to score in double figures Tuesday night. Chase Ross contributed with 12 points.

The loss to Pryor was the Zebras’ 10th-straight, dropping Claremore to 0-10 on the season and 0-5 in conference.

Pryor’s outside shooting by Robert Ross in the first quarter put the Tigers ahead 20-8.

Robert Ross drained a pair of treys in the quarter, and Brice Daniels added six points in the paint as the two Tigers combined for 14 of the Tigers’ 20 points.

Claremore senior guard Brett Russell scored a game-high 32 points.

Russell had 15 of the Zebras’ 20 points in the first half and also finished the night with seven treys.

Ross stayed consistent in the second quarter and scored 15 of his 20 points to put the Tigers ahead 40-20 at halftime.

Pryor’s lead grew to 58-40 at the end of the third quarter.

Along with Russell, Claremore junior forward Hunter Garroutte tallied eight points and Reid Joyner chipped in four.

Claremore’s Daniel Lauer also contributed with two points in the final two minutes of action.

Claremore’s starting lineup of Russell, Garroutte, Joyner and twins Darrius and Dontre Murphy played 29 of the 32 minutes.

Offensively, the Tigers also got scoring help from Zac Baumert with 7 points and Ryan Ogg with 6.

On the night, the Tigers converted 15 points from the perimeter and 41 in the paint.

“Claremore jumped on us 6-2 to start the game,” Pryor Head Coach Greg Arnold said. “I called a timeout and challenged our guys to step up. I told them this is the most important game of the season.”

Pryor takes on successful 8-3 Miami squad Friday at home.

The Lady Tigers fell to Claremore 53-39.
