Baseball roundup: Wildcats stymie Nowata

SALINA, OK — Salina collected a 7-2 win over Nowata in Class 3A baseball action Tuesday.

It is a good sign for the Wildcats (12-11), who will host the Ironmen in a district tournament May 1. The district format is double-elimination.

Salina will begin play in the Salina Invitational this week, with games against Inola and Vinita.

The 'Cats will take on the Longhorns Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will host the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Chouteau feasting before postseason

CHOUTEAU — Chouteau swept a doubleheader with Providence (Ark). Tuesday to improve to 24-5.

The Wildcats took the first game of the twinbill 16-1 and won the the second by a 14-1 count.

The Wildcats are now 12-0 in doubleheader games this season.

Chouteau will have its last tune-ups of the year at home against Nowata Saturday at 1 p.m. and Monday at home against Colcord at 4:30 p.m.

Chouteau will host its first playoff game in 20 years Thursday, May 1, when it will welcome Kiefer for a Class 2A district tournament.

Miami rallies to top LG

LOCUST GROVE — Locust Grove could not hold a 6-3 lead, succumbing to Miami 9-6 at home Tuesday.

The Pirates (4-17) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but could not plate any runs to allow the Wardogs to claim the win.

Miami will return to Locust Grove for a Class 4A district tournament next week.

Locust Grove will co-host the Salina Invitational with the Wildcats and will play all of its pool games at home, starting with Ketchum at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
