Five Tiger wrestlers strike mat gold

PRYOR, OK — Five Pryor wrestlers won championships in Greco wrestling at the Tulsa Union Oklahoma National team qualifier Saturday.

Brunk Gray took first in Greco and third in freestyle at 87 pounds. Curtis Smallwood (160 pounds) claimed gold in Greco and second in freestyle. Heavyweight Nevin Henson finished first in Greco and fourth in freestyle.

Von Gray (106) and Bryson Grino (145) both also brought home gold medals in Greco at their weights.

The wrestlers qualified to represent Oklahoma at the National meet in Fargo, N.D., in late July.

Greco, or Greco-Roman, wrestling differs from freestyle wrestling in the types of holds that are used to score points. Greco-Roman wrestling emphasizes upper-body holds and throws and prohibits below-the-waist maneuvers.
