‘Cats to host first playoff in 20 years

CHOUTEAU, OK — For the first time in two decades, postseason baseball will return to Chouteau.

H.L. Burton Field will be the host site for a district tournament May 1 for the first time since 1994. The Wildcats will welcome Kiefer.

Chouteau (20-4) has won five straight games, including a doubleheader sweep of Dove Science Academy Thursday, and needs six wins to set a single-season school record.

“I'm really proud of our guys,” said first-year head coach Matt Tramel.

On Thursday, the Wildcats took two 11-1 decisions from Dove.

Cody Atwell doubled twice, had eight RBIs and batted a perfect 6-for-6 on the day.

In the first game of the twinbill, senior hurler Austin Hershberger improved his record to 5-1. Atwell won the nightcap to keep his record perfect at 5-0.
