Dual State: LG to face Plainview in quarterfinal

LOCUST GROVE, OK — The fifth-ranked Locust Grove wrestlers will head to Cushing Saturday as one of eight 3A qualifiers for the dual state tournament.

The Pirates will face No. 3 Plainview in a quarterfinal at 10 a.m.

Locust Grove (9-2) rolled to a district championship in January and recently edged Pryor for the Doug Rial Memorial title for its first tournament win of the season.

The Pirates will be without senior and state runner-up Braden Bennett at 113 pounds, though LG head coach Johnny Cook expects to have him back from a clavicle injury by the regional tournament Feb. 21-22.

Several Locust Grove wrestlers missed the first part of the season preparing for the Indians on the football field. The Pirates lost to Plainview in a state quarterfinal.

The LG-Plainview winner will advance to the semifinal round and face the Chandler-Perry winner at 2 p.m. Perry is the top overall seed in the tournament.

The opposite bracket includes Blackwell, Jay, Tonkawa and Kingfisher.

The title dual will begin at 6:30 p.m.
