Tigers dump Metro for title shot

PRYOR, OK — Despite allowing eight hits and seven errors, Pryor found a way to topple Metro Christian 8-5 Friday to advance to Saturday's championship game of the Three Rivers Association varsity league summer tournament.

The win also cements the Tigers' spot in next weekend's state tournament in Shawnee and Edmond.

Pryor jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning but Metro plated runs in the second, third and fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

The Tigers loaded the bases for sophomore third bagger Spencer Henson in the bottom of the fourth, who drove a full-count, two-out pitch to the left field fence for a double, clearing the bases and putting the Tigers up for good.

"It's just me trying to do my job. Trying to get it up to the next batter, the next guy, keep the rally going. I just get up and look for a base hit," Henson said of his hot bat.

Henson, who also smashed an RBI single in the first inning, drove in four runs at the plate to bring his two-day RBI total to seven. Henson had a rough day in the field, however, committing four errors.

"[The offense] just gives me a confidence boost, knowing that I can do something to help the team out up at the plate," Henson said. "I know my team will back me up, I have a great team. It's mostly because of them that we got this W. Ant [pitcher Anthony Martinez] did a great job tonight pitching."

Martinez went the distance and minimized damage for the most part. The bend-but-don't-break Tiger defense stifled Patriot rallies in the first, second and fourth innings.

Nate Wolfe had a pair of RBI singles, and rightfielder Caleb Hill drove in a run with a fifth-inning double.

Saturday's title game will be 6:30 p.m. at American Legion Park in Claremore.
