GROVE, OK —
Pryor junior Robert Ross scored 20 points and the Tigers continued their trend of winning tight games, trumping Grove 59-54 Friday night at Grove.
The Tigers (8-8) withstood a 30-point night from the Ridge-runners’ Jake Spychalski, who scored eight straight points in the fourth quarter to cut the Pryor lead from seven to one (55-54) with 2:11 to play.
Junior forward Ryan Ogg pulled down 14 rebounds and scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter for Pryor, while fellow forward Spencer Henson scored 10 in the second half. Henson, a sophomore, finished with 12 for the game.
Grove led 42-35 with 2:28 to play in the third quarter, but an 8-2 run closed the gap to 44-43 heading to the fourth. Ross’ 3-pointer early in the final frame gave the Tigers the lead for good.
Zaph Bobb scored five points and snared seven rebounds for Pryor, which went 19-24 from the free-throw line (79 percent), one of its highest team marks of the season.
Grove will join Pryor next season as a member of the Metro Lakes Conference. The Tigers will try to go above .500 for the first time this season in a Metro Lakes rematch Saturday at home against Tahlequah. Tip-off for the early game is slated for 6 p.m.
Tigerettes’ road woes continue
GROVE — Emilee Iverson scored 16 points to help Grove pound Pryor, 57-35, in a Class 5A showdown Friday at Grove.
Pryor led for most of the first quarter and held a 12-11 edge in the second before a 23-3 run smothered any chance of the Tigerettes picking up their first win.
Pryor outrebounded the Lady Ridgerunners 40-35, with Hunter Gilstrap’s nine leading the way. Gilstrap also added seven points.
Alyissa Harry scored a team-high 11 points for Pryor. Sammy Gordon chipped in seven and Rachel Zumstein posted six.
