SALINA, OK —
Despite winning its district and being ranked in the top six of the OKrankings.com poll, the Salina Wildcats won't be hosting a regional tournament this week.
Instead, they'll be on the road at unranked Kellyville and will kick off regional action at 1 p.m. Thursday against Prague.
Salina (22-8) is the highest-ranked team in their bracket, yet will travel the furthest to play. The 'Cats are one of only two ranked teams in the regional, along with No. 10 Henryetta.
The Wildcats' first-round opponent, Prague, is 12-18 on the year. Henryetta (19-7) will face off against host Kellyville (14-13) in an 11 a.m. game Thursday.
Adair, which edged Chelsea in its two district games, will head to Verdigris for a regional, where they will face Perkins-Tryon (19-11) in Game 2 Thursday at 1 p.m.
Pawhuska filled the fourth place in the Verdigris bracket alongside the Warriors (14-13), Cardinals (24-2) and Perkins-Tryon.
Pawhuska (16-10) eliminated Lincoln Christian Monday to advance. They will play Verdigris in Game 1. That first pitch is set for 11 a.m. Thursday.
Each regional tournament is a double-elimination tournament. The losers and winners of the first two games in the regionals will meet later Thursday in Games 3 (3 p.m.) and 4 (5 p.m.), respectively. Game 5 (Friday, 4 p.m.) will be between the losers of Games 3 and 4, and the winner of Game 5 will head to Game 6 (Friday, 6 p.m.).
If a Game 7 is necessary, it will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of each regional will qualify for the single-elimination state tournament to be played at sites in Edmond May 9-11.
Locust Grove (8-20) was defeated by Jay in its doubleheader last week, ending the Pirates' season.
