TAHLEQUAH, OK — Two top-10 5A teams and a top-10 3A team made life difficult for Class 4A Locust Grove Thursday at the Tahlequah/NSU Tournament.

The host Tahlequah Lady Tigers pummeled the Lady Pirates in Thursday's opener, 8-0, to move to a perfect 8-0 on the season. Class 5A Piedmont (3-1) continued the trend with an 11-1 run-rule victory.

Sandwiched between the two lopsided defeats was a 7-3 loss at the hands of 3A Henryetta, the No. 10 team in the class. Locust fell to 1-6 on the year with the loss, though their lone win, a 2-0 victory over Kansas Aug. 19, was against a ranked team. The Lady Comets were No. 9 in 3A.

LG was set to challenge McAlester Friday and Tecumseh Saturday. The Lady Pirates will host Wagoner Monday at 5 p.m.

Class 3A's 19th-ranked Adair sneaked by 2A No. 12 Wyandotte 12-9 Thursday before falling 3-0 to Poteau at the Rogers State Festival.

The Lady Warriors (4-5) were set to take on 2A's third-ranked Savanna Friday and Coweta at 12:30 p.m. Saturday to wrap up tournament play.

Pryor fell to 1-1 in District 5A-3 play with a 4-3 loss at Collinsville Thursday. The Tigerettes (3-4) will return to action Monday at 5 p.m. at Grove. Pryor will host its first home contest Tuesday against Claremore.
