Three county wrestlers into state finals

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Pryor’s Cody Foos, Locust Grove’s Cub Yeager and Salina’s Cullen Patterson will all be taking aim at gold Saturday in the state wrestling tournaments at Oklahoma City’s State Fair Arena.

Foos, the Tigers’ 138-pound senior, will face defending 5A state champion Gary Wayne Harding of Collinsville. Foos decisioned Altus’ Mikie Abuan 7-5 in the championship first round and topped Edison’s Jamal Wright 5-2 in a semifinal.

Locust Grove’s returning state champion, Yeager, pinned Elgin’s Reece Maitlen in 1:12 in a 4A championship first-round bout and earned an 11-2 major decision from Elgin’s Shaquille Wright in a semi.

Yeager, a 132-pound senior, will look for his third-straight state championship Saturday against Tuttle’s Brik Flippo.

Salina’s lone state qualifier, senior Cullen Patterson, rolled into the 3A finals at 120 pounds with a 13-8 win over Madill’s Tyler Ramirez and a third-round pin of Perry’s Noah Nida in a semifinal.

Patterson will draw Owen Simpson of Tonkawa for the title Saturday.

Pryor senior Kelvin Grubbs (145 pounds) is also in the medal hunt in 5A after a semifinal loss to Tahlequah’s Mitch Sellers. LG’s Braden Bennett (120 pounds) and Isiah Woolman are also still in medal contention in the 4A tourney.

Pryor’s Dylan Wright and Locust Grove’s Dustin Remer and Trey Loveall all were eliminated Friday.
