Colcord sweeps Chouteau in district final

COLCORD, OK — Lady Hornets top Ladycats

COLCORD — The Chouteau Ladycats picked up their second win on the season on Friday night, catapulting them into the district championship game in Colcord. The only bad part of that was that Colcord was ready for Chouteau.

Colcord's Kayleigh Haggard led all scorers with 15 points, Emalee Copeland added another 12 and the Lady Hornets stung the Ladycats Saturday night, 60-30 to stake claim to a district title.

The loss for Chouteau, now throws them into the losers bracket of next week’s 2A regional tournament, with a 1:30 p.m. tipoff against Wister set for Thursday in Tahlequah.

Colcord jumped out to a 13-0 run to start the game, but the Ladycats answered with a 6-0 run.

Dayla Vance scored only bucket for Chouteau in the second quarter, as the Ladycats went into the locker room trailing 31-8 at the midway point.

Allison Grossman, who was coming off a 19-point performance against Fairland Feb. 21, couldn’t find the same shot against Colcord, going 1-for-6 from three point range. As a team, Chouteau was 11-for-31 (35 percent) from the field and 2-of-9 (22 percent) from the free throw line.

One bright spot for the Ladycats was the bench play of senior Courtney McAffee. McAffee scored 6 points and had 4 rebounds – all in the fourth quarter.
