Wildcats rough up Riders

SALINA, OK — Salina scored in every quarter to knock off hapless Hulbert Thursday, 41-13, in a district contest.

Salina entered the game with the sixth-best scoring defense (11.2 points per game) in Class 2A and shut out the winless Riders until early in the fourth quarter.

The win improves the Wildcats to 6-1 overall with a 4-0 mark in District 2A-7. The Wildcats have already wrapped up a spot in the Class 2A playoffs — their first since 2010 — with three district games still to play: Oct. 25 at unbeaten Commerce, Nov. 1 vs. Quapaw for senior night and Nov. 8 at Kansas.

After posting a 1-4 home record in 2012, Salina has a great chance to go undefeated within city limits in 2013, as Quapaw has just one win (40-38 vs. Ketchum) so far this season.

Commerce and Salina will square off Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
