McALESTER, OK —
The Pryor sluggers improved to 18-9 on the year with a 2-0 showing Friday at the McAlester Shootout.
The tenth-ranked Tigers opened the day with a 5-3 win over Shawnee. Zack Hammock pitched a complete game and allowed eight hits.
The Tigers and Wolves each picked up a run in the first inning and a pair of runs in the third to tie at 3 heading into the fourth. Pryor scored twice in the top of the fourth and held the Wolves scoreless the rest of the way.
Hammock had a pair of RBIs on the day. Casey Holloway and Spencer Henson each batted in a run.
Henson had a double and outfielder Nate Wolfe tripled.
The Tigers negated a big day from the Wolves' Casey Bowlan, who doubled and tripled to bring home a pair of runs.
Pryor grinded out an 8-7 win over Ardmore in its second game of the day.
The Tigers have a big week of district play upcoming. Pryor is locked in a tight three-team race for second place in their district.
Noble (12-0 district) will secure first-place with at least a split next week against Tulsa Memorial (7-1 district). Memorial could win the district with six wins to close the year, including their home-and-home with Noble.
Pryor (7-3) would clinch at least third place by winning out against Nathan Hale, Durant and a home-and-home series with McAlester. McAlester stands at 8-3 in the district with games remaining against Pryor (twice) and Memorial (once).
Memorial still must play Noble twice, Durant and McAlester once and must play two games with cellar-dwelling Northwest Classen.
