—  The Lady Pirate basketball team will begin the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational Tournament with a match up against Keys. Locust plays Keys Jan. 4, three days before their tournament showdown. Point guard Sydnie Pierce believes the earlier game will benefit the team in their tournament.

“I feel good,” Pierce said about the team's first round pairing. “We play them (Keys) the Friday before the tournament for a conference game, so we will get to adjust and do what we need to to move to the next round.” Keys is coming off a 48-25 victory over Wagoner. The Cougars are 3-4 on the season entering the game at Locust Grove. Locust Grove will obtain the advantage of playing on their home court. Pierce, a junior, says the home court advantage will help the team through the tournament.

“I expect to do well. It's our home court, so we should be a little more comfortable,” Pierce said. The Lady Pirates will need to beat Adair in order to win their own tournament back-to-back seasons. The Lady Warriors are currently ranked fifth in class 3A with a perfect 10-0 record and are the favorites to win the invitational tournament.
