Pryor splits pair of last-minute finishes

PRYOR, OK — The two soccer games between Pryor and Grove at Pryor Tuesday night had the same result but very different endings, as the Pryor girls overcame Grove 2-1 before the Ridgerunners bested the Tiger boys by the same score in overtime.

In the early game, Pryor captain Karissa Aubrey nailed a penalty kick with 46 seconds remaining in the game to push the Lady Tigers past Grove.

"I knew I had to score because I wanted to be there for my team," Aubrey said. "It was a real team effort. It's not me who scores, it's the team. Whenever I score, I always make sure to thank whoever assisted on the goal. It's always a team effort."

Aubrey scored both goals for the Lady Tigers, her first coming in the opening half to give Pryor a 1-0 lead at the break.

Grove's Morgan Wooten scored the equalizer in the 46th minute, the first goal junior keeper Elizabeth Anderson had allowed in three games.

Pryor had several shots to take the lead but several sailed wide as the wind picked up. The Lady Tigers could not convert until Aubrey attacked the goal in the 80th minute and was tripped up, forcing the penalty kick.

Aubrey had been hobbled since early in the second half after taking a kick to the knee, stopping twice to favor it after failed attacks before scoring the winning goal, a low drive to the left of the goal past Grove keeper Morgan Knox.

In the nightcap, Grove's Wes Swingle scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute after the Tigers forced overtime on a Jordan Moore equalizer.

Grove's Casen Brown knocked a shot past Ryan Ogg to give the Ridgerunners an early 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute.

The scoreboard remained untouched until the 70th minute, when Moore pushed a header past Grove keeper Tyler Troppman off of a corner kick from the northeast corner.

Swingle's goal came less than three minutes into the overtime period, dropping the Tigers to 1-5 on the year and 0-3 in district.

The Lady Tigers, No. 10 in 5A, moved to 4-2 and 3-0 in district. Both squads will head to Booker T. Washington Friday for their biggest test of the season so far.
