Pryor drops Joplin in Tiger/Zebra final

PRYOR, OK — Pryor pitcher Kelvin Grubbs improved to 3-1 on the season as the Tigers scored a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Joplin (Mo.) in the final round of the Tiger-Zebra Invitational Saturday at American Legion Memorial Field.

Grubbs and the Tigers (10-9) fell behind 3-0 after Joplin brought home three runs in the top of the third inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers snagged four runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead — one they would not relinquish.

The Tigers added one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings before Joplin cut the lead to 6-4 with a run in the sixth. Joplin tried to rally again in the seventh, but the Tigers snuffed it out. Bradley Nixon got the save, taking over for Grubbs in the sixth and allowing one run in the seventh.

It was the second come-from-behind 6-5 win of the tournament for Pryor, which got a walk-off two-run single from Brennon Barth in Thursday's opener to topple Booker T. Washington.

Pryor, which is 3-3 in district play, finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and will head south to Durant today for a district contest. That game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
