Wrestling: Five Pirates, Wildcat headed to state

BRISTOW, OK — Five Locust Grove Pirates knew Friday they would be traveling to Oklahoma City for the 4A State wrestling tournament. They now know who they will face.

Senior and Wyoming commit Cub Yeager will seek another state title at 132 pounds, this time as a one-seed. Harrah's Jace Curry will be Bennett's first-round foe.

Locust Grove's 285-pounder Trey Loveall is the other one-seed for the Pirates. He will oppose Jose Cuevas of Weatherford in the first round.

At 120 pounds, senior Braden Bennett (22-9) will look to improve on his state runner-up finish from last year as a two-seed. He will face Clinton's Bodhi Hines in the first round.

Dustin Remer (220 pounds) and Isaiah Woolman (152 pounds) will enter the state tournament as two-seeds, facing Woodward's Luis Corona and Blanchard's Makia Hurley, respectively.

Patterson advances to state

PAWHUSKA — Salina 120-pounder Cullen Patterson will represent Salina at the 3A State wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday.

Patterson, a runner-up in the 3A East Regional tournament Friday and Saturday, earned the second-seed out of the East and will challenge Tyler Ramirez of Madill in the first round Feb. 28.

Patterson won the 2014 Doug Rial title at 120 pounds Feb. 1.
