Pryor QB Barth named Hurley Athlete of Year

TULSA, OK — Pryor junior quarterback Brennon Barth was named the Bob Hurley Auto Group Athlete of the Year at a banquet in Tulsa Monday.

“I just figured I’d come here and enjoy the meal. I wasn’t expecting to win anything,” Barth told KOTV, a co-sponsor of the award. “I’m proud though. I didn’t expect it. All the athletes coming around knew it would be tough. I’m just glad.”

The Athlete of the Year was selected from 13 athletes of the week. Barth was chosen as Week 4’s athlete of the week for his performance in Pryor’s 42-41 overtime win at Coweta.

In that game, Barth rushed for 161 yards, threw for a season-high 125 yards and accounted for six touchdowns — five rushing, one passing — including the eventual game-winner in overtime.

Barth, who made the switch from wide receiver to option quarterback in the spring, ran for 1,596 yards and 34 touchdowns during the regular season to lead Pryor to its first playoff appearance since 2011. He was held under 100 yards rushing just once during district play, and racked up a season-high seven touchdowns and 368 yards against East Central in the district finale.
