LOCUST GROVE, OK —
Locust Grove improved to 10-22 Tuesday night after defeating Salina 7-0 behind sophomore pitcher Ashley Lovelady's shutout effort. The Lady Pirates put up enough to runs to secure a win before heading into district tournament play.
Locust started a rally in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead, then senior Lexy Jenkins hit her first career home run to put the Lady Pirates up 4-0 in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth inning, sophomore Gabby Harris knocked in fellow sophomore Sherydan Houser on an error in the sixth. LG scored two more runs in the inning to give Lovelady a cushioned lead, which she held until the end of the game.
The Lady Pirates will head to Claremore Sequoyah Thursday night to try to capture a district title. Locust has won five of its last seven games since a 14-game losing streak in the heart of its schedule.
Salina (12-15) will hit the road to battle Kansas in a district tournament at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday.
