Reserves boost Pirates past Jay

LOCUST GROVE — Locust Grove extended its seven-game winning streak Saturday night after pounding Jay, 77-56, at Pirate Arena.

The Pirates (18-2) continued to develop new talent in the absence of Jason Pirtle (shoulder injury) and Taylor Halpain (illness). Pirtle remains questionable for the remainder of the season, but Halpain will return to the lineup in the team’s next outing.

Junior Keven Wadlow put up 14 points in his first career start Friday night at Vinita and continued his hot streak Saturday with 16 points, along with five rebounds and three assists, in place of Halpain.

Fellow junior Wyatt Rogers came off the bench for the short-handed Pirates and posted 15 points thanks to five makes from downtown, all in the first half. Sophomore Zach Bailey also added 10 off of the bench.

Forward Colton Pike led the Pirates with 17 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Rowland and Mason Fine also tallied nine apiece.

Jay’s Taylor Foster led all scorers with 24 points.
