LG streaks continue against Vinita

VINITA, OK — The Locust Grove boys continued their winning ways Friday night, defeating Vinita on the road, 57-51.

Junior Tyler Rowland and the Pirates (17-2) are currently riding a six-game winning streak. Rowland led the Pirates with 19 points against the Hornets (10-11) and is averaging 16.8 points-per-game during the team’s winning streak.

LG was without senior captain Taylor Halpain Friday night, who was out of the lineup due to illness, but junior Keven Wadlow stepped into the starting lineup for his first career start. Wadlow put up 14 points Friday and has averaged nearly 10 points in February coming off the bench.

LG junior Colton Pike posted 12 points and Zack Robinson added six.

Lady Hornets knock off Lady Pirates

VINITA — The Locust Grove Lady Pirates dropped their third-straight game Friday night after falling to No. 7 Vinita on the road, 52-42, and dropped to 13-6.

The Lady Pirates and Lady Hornets (17-4) were knotted up at 28 after one half, but Vinita gained the lead in a low-scoring third quarter (6-5). Vinita sealed the victory by outscoring Locust 18-9 in the final frame.

Senior Bailey Holman led the Lady Pirates with 12 points and Madison Davis tallied 11. Vinita’s Courtney Spurgeon led all scorers with 24.

Locust Grove will return home Saturday to play Jay. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at Pirate Arena.
