PRYOR, OK —
Through one day of action at the Doug Rial Memorial at Pryor's Burdick Center, Pryor and Locust Grove wrestlers are leading the pack. Four Pirates and three Tigers are in the hunt for individual titles, while Salina's Cullen Patterson is eyeing a title of his own.
On Friday, Pryor's Logan Litke earn a 4-0 decision from Jenks' Grant Fox to advance to Saturday's 113-pound title match. Teammates and defending champions Cody Foos and Kelvin Grubbs each advanced to title matches at 138 and 145 pounds, respectively.
Foos snared a 6-3 decision from Sapulpa's Ty Barrett in a quarterfinal and a 6-2 decision in a semifinal from Broken Arrow's Brady Jones. Grubbs pinned Inola's Spencer Largent in a first-rounder before majoring over Jenks' Zac Smith in a quarterfinal, 12-1. He then pinned Locust Grove's Alex Hix in 52 seconds in a semi to set up a rematch with Tahlequah's Mitch Sellars in the title bout.
Locust Grove will try to sweep the upper weights Saturday, as Trey Loveall will have a shot to defend his 2013 Rial heavyweight title. He pinned both of his opponents in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to earn a berth in the championship match.
Dustin Remer pinned two opponents at 220 pounds to advance to the final round. He will seek to replace 2013 state champion Mike Baker as the 220-pound Doug Rial champion.
Cub Yeager (132 pounds) danced quickly through his first two rounds, pinning both opponents in less than a minute. He will take on Tahlequah's Zech Vanfleet, who advanced to the gold-medal round by virtue of a 14-2 major decision in a semifinal against Bristow's Eric Snodgrass.
LG's Trevor Taylor will battle Inola's Corey Wilson for the 170-pound title. Taylor pinned Bartlesville's Garrett Kitchel in 1:11 to claim a spot in the title round.
Patterson is the Wildcats' lone title contender at 120 pounds after pinning a pair of foes, Jenks' Nathan Yohe and Sapulpa's Steven Shelly, in early rounds. Patterson will face Pawhuska's Brycen Swan for the championship.
