PIT: Pirates aim for second trophy

PRYOR, OK — Adair surges past LG for title spot

PRYOR — Adair will play in a tournament title game for the third time this year after dispatching county foe Locust Grove, 49-39, in a Pryor Invitational contest Saturday at the Burdick Center.

Kylie Looney scored 15 points to lead Adair (14-1), which will take on Class 4A No. 7 Vinita in the championship game Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

The Lady Warriors found themselves in a rare dogfight early, as the Lady Pirates (9-3) shot out to an 11-8 lead after one quarter. The lead held until late in the second quarter, when Adair went on a 9-0 run to take a 27-19 lead into the locker room.

The run reached 11-0 before a Sydnie Pierce bucket halfway into the third period ended the LG drought.

The Adair lead would get as high as 14 points, but a late LG run capped by a Karson Maple trey brought the Lady Pirates within six (41-35) with 2:32 to play.

Adair would close the game on an 8-4 spurt to clinch the win.

Madison Davis led the Lady Pirates with 11 points. Kennedy Sokoloski added nine points and four boards. Adair’s Bailey Stephens notched a dozen points, and Molly Kerr and Keni Lippe each pitched in 11.

Locust Grove will settle for a third-place contest with Berryhill Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
