Henson named second-team All-American

PRYOR, OK — Pryor junior Spencer Henson was named a second-team All-American by Louisville Slugger for his outstanding 2014 sophomore season.

Henson led the team in nearly every major statistical category and was selected as a multi-position athlete. Though Henson primarily played third base and pitched during the season, he was chosen as a pitcher and first-baseman.

Henson batted .486 with a team-leading 54 hits, 45 RBIs, 16 doubles and four home runs.

Henson also led the Tigers with a 2.24 ERA on the mound. He went 6-3 in nine appearances, including four complete games and 67 strikeouts against 20 walks.

Lefthander Cody Reed of Ardmore (Ala.) High School earned Pitcher of the Year honors and Chase Vallot of St. Thomas More HS (Lafayette, La.) picked up the Player of the Year trophy.

Henson joins fellow Oklahomans Jeb Bargfeldt (LHP, Owasso), Corey Zangari (C, Carl Albert), Bryce Carter (C, Cascia Hall), Gavin LaValley (1B/3B, Carl Albert), Jon Littell (OF, Stillwater), Jonah Bride (SS, Owasso), Kelby Hern (SS, Cascia Hall), Anthony Alvarez (3B/SS, Broken Arrow), Justin McGregor (RHP/SS, Carl Albert) and Cameron Warren (1B/RHP, Carl Albert) on the first- and second-team lists.

Players are nominated by their coaches and the staff of the publication Collegiate Baseball selects the team.
