LG board careful in selecting coach

LOCUST GROVE, OK — The Locust Grove school board reconvened Monday night to discuss the head boys basketball coaching vacancy.

The board met in executive session for an hour and a half, but no decision was reached regarding the vacancy.

The meeting was a continuation of the May 19 meeting, in which the board interviewed potential candidates and accepted the resignation of superintendent David Cash.

Board President Rick Condit told The Times after the meeting that the board is taking its time to thoroughly review candidates and make the right decision.

The five-member committee faces a difficult task in replacing former head coach Ronnie Maple, who was let go by the school April 15 despite winning six consecutive district titles in his six seasons.

Cash told The Times before he resigned that Maple had reapplied for the position and would be considered. Maple last appeared at a board meeting May 12, when he met with the board during executive session.

The board is set to reconvene Saturday, but Condit said there is no timetable for a hiring announcement.
