KANSAS, OK —
Salina edged past Class 2A's sixth-ranked Kansas, 49-41, Tuesday night behind 37 points from Kaisee Moore and Courtney Condit.
Down by three heading into the fourth quarter, Salina (6-7) turned up the pressure and forced the Lady Comets to make mistakes. The Lady Wildcats were happy to take advantage.
"We started our press and we got some turnovers," Salina head coach Mark Fraley said. "We got a few buckets and once we got the lead back, we hit our free throws."
Salina hit 10 of its 14 foul shots in the closing period.
Moore and Condit each hit a trio of triples in the game.
The boys were not as lucky in the late game, falling to the Comets, 45-43.
The teams will now head to the NEO Tournament in Miami Thursday. The girls will open in the Blue Bracket at 6 p.m. against Will Rogers at the Miami Civic Center.
The boys (7-6) will begin Blue Bracket play at 4:30 p.m. at the college.
