PIT: Pryor stymies Vinita late

(Continued)

PRYOR, OK — Pryor girls squander great start

PRYOR — Pryor played perhaps its best half of of the season but ran out of steam late, succumbing to Vinita 59-39 in the Pryor Invitational Tuesday at the Burdick Center.

The Tigerettes (0-10) used strong rebounding and zippy passing to surge ahead of the Class 4A No. 7 Lady Hornets 18-16 late in the second quarter.

Vinita, however, had other plans, going on a 9-0 run to end the half. The Lady Hornets cruised from there, outscoring the Tigerettes 34-21 in the second half.

Rachel Zumstein had a team-high 11 points for Pryor. Sammy Gordon flirted with a double-double, notching nine points and eight rebounds. Hunter Gilstrap added seven.

Pryor's loss will send VInita to the tournament title game Saturday to face the winner of Friday's Locust Grove-Adair game.
