Ridgerunners drop LG in dual

LOCUST GROVE, OK — The Locust Grove dual wrestling team began its season with a 42-34 loss to Class 5A’s No. 13 Grove Tuesday night.

The Pirates began the dual with a 22-3 lead, but gave up three straight forfeits in the 138-, 145-, and 152-pound weight classes.

After the forfeits Locust maintained a one-point lead and extended it to seven after senior 160-pounder Isiah Woolman pinned his opponent in the third period. Woolman entered the final period trailing 6-5, but quickly turned the match around with the pin.

After Woolman’s victory the Pirates lost four straight matches, including another forfeit. The forfeit was the Pirates’ fourth of the night. Senior Trey Loveall racked up the Pirates' third first-period pin of the dual to end the night. Seniors Braden Bennett and Cub Yeager also pinned their opponents in the first period.

Senior Cory Rohde, junior Dustin Remer and sophomore Trevor Taylor are all expected to return to the mat next week after missing the first weeks of the season due to football.

Locust Grove will travel to Inola Thursday night. The dual is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
