Baseball roundup: Chouteau thwarts Afton

COMMERCE, OK — Chouteau defeated Afton, 8-4, in the Mickey Mantle Tournament consolation championship Friday.

The Wildcats (16-4) went 2-2 in the tournament.

Senior Austin Hershberger had a big day, improving to 4-4 on the mound and batting in four runs. Hershberger was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate.

Cody Atwell went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and Adam Snyder went 2-for-3 and batted in a run.

The Wildcats were slated to host Porter at 4:30 p.m. Monday. No score was available at press time.

Wildcats fall in Festival finale

CLAREMORE — Salina fell to 1-1 in the 4-State Baseball Festival over the weekend, succumbing to Kickapoo (Mo.) 8-0 Saturday at Claremore Sequoyah High School.

The Wildcats dropped to 9-9 on the year.

Salina was slated to travel to Tahlequah Sequoyah for a contest with the Indians Monday, but that game was canceled due to inclement weather. The Wildcats will host Metro Christian today at 4:30 p.m.
