LOCUST GROVE, OK —
Locust Grove's Cory Rohde was named the District 3A-7 MVP earlier this month, joining Special Teams MVP Cameron McIntire and Coach of the Year Matt Hennesy in receiving district football recognition.
Rohde, a senior running back, rushed for 1,368 yards and 20 touchdowns despite missing two games with a knee injury. He was named the Tulsa World Player of the Week after his 397-yard performance in a win against Lincoln Christian in Week 9.
The 80-41 win over the Bulldogs sealed the Pirates' first district title since 1992 and cemented Pirate head coach Hennesy as a force to be reckoned with. Hennesy, in his second year at the helm, led the team to a 12-1 record and a berth in the state quarterfinals.
McIntire averaged 31.0 yards on 15 kickoff returns, one of which he returned for a score.
The district awards are given out to seniors only.
Offensive lineman Ryan Woolman was named one of three Offensive Players of the Year. He, Rohde and McIntire were also awarded with All-District honors. Linebacker Traden Sokoloski and defensive end Charley Briggs were also All-District selections.
Hilldale led all teams with nine All-District picks and three honorable mentions. Hilldale's Justin Sanders was named Defensive MVP and Lincoln Christian's Justin Flewellen was named Offensive MVP.
